Dublin

Today we were in Dublin, Ireland and our excursions were in the afternoon so we had the morning free to sleep in.  I actually got a good night’s sleep so that really helped with the jet lag. Michael got up early for breakfast, and me wanting to laze around and not get out of bed to go eat breakfast, he was kind enough to bring mine back so that I could have breakfast in bed! The Viking ships have a Nordic spa and today we took advantage and went in the pool that was like a big hot tub. What a relaxing way to start the day.

I adore the Irish people – – they have an incredible sense of humor and can make a joke about anything.  The guides on my bus were no exception and we had a wonderful tour today.  We went to the Abbey Tavern, which has been in business for the past 400 years.  We were treated to Irish coffee. Coffee is not my favorite drink, as a matter fact I detest coffee, but I am not one to shirk away from trying something new. I drank enough to actually taste the whiskey in it.  Give me a diet Coke any day and I am happy.

We spent quite a bit of time driving around the Dublin Harbor and saw some very lovely neighborhoods on our way to Malahide Castle.  This castle was built in the 1100s, and until recently had been in possession of the Talbot family all that time. The last surviving member of the family deeded it over to the government as there were no more heirs.

Michael had a wonderful excursion to the Guinness brewery and museum and drank a lot of beer.
