Belfast, Northern Ireland

Today we are in Belfast Northern Ireland, and once again the weather gods are smiling upon us. No rain, some sun and cool temperatures make for a great day for touring, but a lousy day for taking pictures as the light was so flat.

We went to a UNESCO world heritage site, Giants Causeway, on the northern part of the island of Ireland. Here one discovers an aggregation of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic irruption. For millions of years, the unique rock formations of Giants Causeway have stood as a natural rampart against the unbridled ferocity of Atlantic storms. It took almost a two hour drive to get there and a two hour drive to get back, but it was worth it.

On the way to the Giants Causeway, we stopped to take pictures of a cliff top ruin call Dunlose Castle.

On the way back we stopped and saw a suspension bridge between the shore and an island.

Very unusual And we also saw cows frolicking on the beach.
